Timeline & Eligibility

Before you start your adoption process, there are two important things to consider: your timeline and eligibility to adopt.

Timeline

Each family entering into the adoption process will have a different time frame. Some families may spend more time completing trainings or finishing up their home study. Other families may find that they are looking for a specific child, which can take longer through the matching process. We work to ensure that each family member and child feels comfortable and confident in the visitation and placement process before we will finalize any adoption. You can read a little more about timelines on our Q&A page where we talk about the breakdown of the entire process, click below to read more.

A component of being a trauma-informed organization is recognizing the needs and background of each member within the family. Through this process we work to ensure that through each phase of the adoptions or fostering process your family is supported.

Eligibility

There are certain requirements in place to regulate and oversee who is eligible to adopt. These include:

  • You must be 21 years of age and at least 10 years older than the child you want to adopt

  • You may rent or own your home, but stability is very important

  • You need to be able to meet your own financial obligations

  • You must be financially, medically, and mentally stable

  • You must have lived in Georgia for at least 6 months. If you have lived outside of Georgia in the last five years we will conduct additional background checks.
