What Forms Do I need to Fill Out to Claim the Credit?
First, you will need to apply for an Adoption Taxpayer ID Number. Visit:http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Adoption-Taxpayer-Identification-Number
Then, to file for the Adoption Tax Credit you will need IRS Form 8839. You can find the form at the bottom of this page: https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc607
Grants
There are many grants available for adoption. Here are just a few you can look into:
Helpusadopt.org
Helpusadopt.org is a national 501(c)(3) financial grant program that helps couples/individuals (regardless of race, religion, gender, ethnicity, marital status or sexual orientation) with the cost of their adoptions by awarding grants up to $15,000. They support domestic, international and foster care adoptions and do not charge our applicants to apply.
The National Adoption Foundation
Families can apply for outright grants from the Foundation. The grant program is open to all legal adoptions including public or private agency adoptions, international, special needs or adoptions facilitated by an attorney. There is no income requirement.
